Maunalua Bay Stormwater Control Program, but so much more

This little video is a test of a product called Camtasia Studio. Camtasia is a powerful little program that records what is being shown on your monitor (such as a Powerpoint presentation, or demonstration of software, or walking someone through a website), with the ability to lay a vocal track over the whole thing. It has a sufficient number of editing controls, and can output to many different formats including avi, mov, m4v, and flash.

This powerpoint presentation was given at a day-long seminar for the Maunalua Local Action Strategy of the Coral Reef Task Force. I put a microphone on all speakers, and recorded their narrated powerpoints with the software loaded on my computer (the powerpoint computer). Editing was a breeze; I merely trimmed off the beginning babble (“please put this mic in a comfortable place, and press the down arrow to go to the next slide”) and the question/answer session (which you couldn’t hear the questions anyway). Edited up all 5 presentations, set my computer to render and automatically upload my products to the relater techsmith.com website. From there, I can generate the code to embed this flash movie into this blog post.

On a wider scale, this watershed is a perfect example of how intimately related our forests are to our urban areas, to our beaches, near shore areas and coral reefs. Hawaii SWARS will put a great deal of emphasis on this connectivity as we plan for forest activity as it affects everything from mountain ridge to blue water.

Enjoy
